When you attempt to copy and paste text while connected to a remote device using RealVNC Viewer, you may see a popup titled "VNC Viewer would like to paste from...", which will appear every time you try to copy and paste, as shown in the screenshot below.
To prevent this message from appearing, you need to change a setting added in iOS/iPad OS 16, called Paste from Other Apps.
To change it, open the Settings app on your iOS device and scroll down to find RVNC Viewer. Tap on RealVNC Viewer and you will see the options below.
Tap on the Paste from Other Apps setting, and choose the either the most appropriate option for you:
- Ask: The app must continue to request permission to paste content from other apps.
- Deny: The app cannot paste content from other apps.
- Allow: The app can paste content from other apps without asking for permission again.
Troubleshooting
If you are still not able to paste, it may be that your session is being disconnected while you are switched out to another app and you have to reconnect, and RealVNC Viewer does not automatically send the current clipboard contents when you first connect and instead waits for the clipboard contents to change during the session.
To change this:
- Open the menu by tapping the hamburger menu at the top left of the app
- Tap Settings
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Diagnostics
- In the Expert textbox, enter: SendInitialClipboard=1
- Connect to your device again and try pasting
