The purpose of this article is to make RealVNC's customers aware of a security issue affecting certificates issued by eMudhra, a third-party certificate authority not affiliated with RealVNC, and to ask that customers update their RealVNC applications to the patched versions as soon as possible.

What happened?

On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, it was reported that the private keys of eight eMudhra intermediate certificate authorities had been compromised. Because RealVNC applications trusted certificates issued under these authorities, it posed a security risk to cloud-based connections between our apps and services.

This security issue does not impact those using direct or offline/on-premises connections between RealVNC apps. Also, RealVNC keys, certificates, and services have not been compromised.

We have no reason to believe that any of our cloud services have been impacted, and our Security Operations Center continues to monitor the situation closely.

What action have we taken?

We have now released versions of the applications that no longer trust certificates issued under the affected eMudhra authorities. These are listed below.

What you need to do

We strongly recommend that you update your applications without delay.

Updated versions are now available to download from our website: https://realvnc.com/connect/download

If you use RealVNC Classic Viewer with a Premium or Enterprise subscription, you can download it from the Downloads area of your RealVNC Portal.

If you have any questions or need help updating your applications, please contact our Support team.

My version isn't listed
