When you use VNC Viewer to connect to a remote computer for the first time, you are prompted to enter a username and password. This authenticates you to VNC Server, the program running on the remote computer.
Note: You can choose to remember the password so you don't have to enter it each time you connect.
Professional or Enterprise subscription
By default, you must enter the local system (or domain/Active Directory) username and password you usually use to log in to your desktop on the remote computer.
If you use Windows 10 and normally use a PIN to log in to your computer, please use the email address and password for your Microsoft account instead.
Note: You can configure VNC Server to use the same authentication scheme as a Home subscription (known as 'VNC Password') . If you've done this, then please see the section "Home subscription / VNC Password".
How do I find my username?
If you are unsure of the username you need to enter you can double check by running one of the following commands on your VNC Server computer.
All of the commands should be run from a standard command prompt / terminal and will output the username for the current logged in user.
Note: If your VNC Server computer is joined to a domain, you should include your domain name in your username, e.g. MYDOMAIN\username or username@MYDOMAIN
Home subscription / VNC Password
You must enter the password you specified when you installed VNC Server on the remote computer.

I'm entering the right username and password but I get an Access is Denied message
By default, VNC Server is configured to only allow users who are members of the local administrators group to authenticate (
Administrators under Windows,
admin group under Linux and Mac).
