UDP vs TCP when using over Tunnelled connections

Hi all,

Is TCP preferred over UDP connection method when using VNC Direct connections over tunneled services?

I am currently seeing a throughput reduction of 1/3 - 1/4 rate when using UDP vs TCP resulting in a 2x-4x screen refresh rate on client impacting screen moves of windows on remote system.    Expectation would think UDP being connectionless would be better as seen when connecting direct without going over tunneled services like VPN or cloud proxies.

Adjusting Quality/Encoding rates does not seem to help behavior leaving only result of using TCP connection.  Any other adjustments that can be done or should TCP be used in such network paths.

  • Im curious about the UDP connection.  Im using version 6.2 and it appears it's defaulting to use UDP connection instead of TCP.  We are experiencing connectivity issue over VPN.  are there Any settings or options that we have to enable to use VNC over VPN?
