On-Prem Management Console - Web Viewer

Follow

From On-Prem Management Console 3.0.0, you can make connections to RealVNC Server 7.18 endpoints directly in your browser from the Devices tab.

The Web Viewer requires On-Prem Management Console 3.0.0 or later and RealVNC Server 7.18.0 or later on the remote device. Only Administrator accounts can initiate Web Viewer connections.

You'll also need to have installed the Coturn service during the On-Prem Management Console install process.

The On-Prem Management Console Web Viewer lets you connect to a managed remote device directly from your browser, without needing to open RealVNC Viewer separately. Connections are made from the Devices page of the Management Console.

Connecting to a remote device

  1. Sign in to the On-Prem Management Console and navigate to the Devices page.

Devices running RealVNC Server 7.18.0 or later display a connect button to the left of the ellipsis (...) menu in their row. Devices running an earlier version of RealVNC Server do not display this button and cannot be accessed via the Web Viewer.

  2. Click the connect button for the device you want to access.

The Web Viewer opens in a new browser tab and shows a Requesting connection screen while the connection is established. To cancel, click Stop.

  3. Enter the Username and Password for the remote device, then click Continue. The username and password needed are the login credentials for the remote device — the username and password used to sign in to that computer. Do not enter your RealVNC account or On-Prem Management Console account details here.

  4. Once connected, the remote device's desktop is displayed in your browser. A notification appears on the remote desktop confirming that a user has connected.

During a session

The Web Viewer toolbar at the top of the screen provides controls for the active session:

Control Description
Fullscreen Expands the Web Viewer to fill your entire screen. Press Esc to exit fullscreen.
Scaling Adjusts how the remote desktop is scaled to fit your browser window.
Ctrl+Alt+Del Sends the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination to the remote device — useful for accessing the Windows lock or task manager screens.
Download Logs Allows the download of session logs to the browser's download folder, useful for sending to our support team for troubleshooting.
Session Information Displays details about the current session, including desktop name, resolution, video format, protocol version, security method, and connection type. Click Save information to download these details as a text file.
Disconnect Ends the session immediately and closes the Web Viewer tab.

You can also click Copy link to session (top right) to copy the Web Viewer URL for this device to your clipboard.

Ending a session

To disconnect, click the Disconnect button (the red icon) in the Web Viewer toolbar. This ends the remote session immediately.

Troubleshooting

The Connect button is not visible for a device

The Connect button only appears for devices running RealVNC Server 7.18.0 or later. Check the Server Version column on the Devices page. If the version shown is earlier than 7.18.0, update RealVNC Server on that device to enable Web Viewer access.

The connection fails or does not complete

If the Requesting connection screen does not progress, check the following:

  • The remote device is powered on and has recently been seen by the console — check the Last Seen column on the Devices page.
  • The remote device can reach the On-Prem Management Console URL.
  • No firewall rule is blocking the connection between the Management Console and the remote device.

To download diagnostic logs for the failed session, click the Click here to download logs for this session link on the connection screen. If the issue persists, contact our Support team and include the downloaded logs.

Authentication fails

Ensure you are entering the credentials for the remote device — not your RealVNC account or On-Prem Management Console account details. You must enter the username and password used to log in to that computer's operating system or a specific VNC password configured on RealVNC Server.
