Connecting from iPad to Mac OS 13 - only via Bonjour?

Hi,

I installed the VNC Viewer from the AppStore on my iPad Air 5 (iPadOS 16.3).

On my Mac Mini (OS13) I activated Screen Sharing with Password.

In the Viewer App my Mac ist listed under "Bonjour". From there I can successfully connect to the Mac. No problems.

But I need a way working on the road using my VPN. So Bonjour should not be possible, or is it?

So I created an entry in the address book for connection to my Mac. But everytime I want to connect the viewer says "wrong protocol version". There are no settings which differ. What's wrong?

I tried FQDN, LAN IP, Wifi IP.
