Adding a new VNCserver fails

I get an expired certificate message when starting VNCserver on machines that don't have it installed - message is

VendorConfig: Error in Certificate "CN=GlobalSign,O=GlobalSign,OU=GlobalSign Root CA - R2": X.509 Error: Certificate expired

The certificate expired 15 Dec 2021 - I have no idea how to go about renewing it.

    Hi Derek,

Thanks for your message. This error message is caused by one of the older certificates we use to establish trust between our client software and RealVNC Cloud services expiring. Normally, we add and remove these certificates on a rolling basis over time, but this one was missed. Please accept our apologies.

This will not affect your access to any RealVNC Cloud services you may use, and we will roll out an updated VNC Viewer and VNC Server to rectify this error.

    Kind regards,

    Jack N

  • Hi Jack,

Do we have a fix on this yet, I am seeing this in my log file. I think this is why I can't start a new VNC session.

  • Hi Steven,

A new version of VNC Server is due out soon which removes the expired certificate. The reason for your sessions not launching will likely not be linked to the certificate, however. Can you share the output from an attempted session launch please?

  • Hi Jack,

I just realized I had a change in xstartup file, once I reversed the change, the error is gone.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

I am still having this problem when trying to connect to a RaspberryPie that had the VNC server running OK. It's been some time since I connected to it. Is there anything I can do today to fix this?

    Thank you.
