RealVNC viewer fails to connect after update/upgrade

I have a Raspberry Pi system running Debian Bookworm that's been sitting in storage for about 8 months.  I just installed it today, and connected to it using RealVNC.  The first thing that I did was to do a Sudo apt update & upgrade.  When it was upgrading VNC durign this process, it hung and never completed.  I was able to log in via PUTTY and complete the upgrade.  However, when I tried to connect via the Address Book, the screen would quickly flash, and I would be left at the Address Book.

I tried removing the server via sudo apt purge realvnc-vnc-server and then re-installing it.  I also deleted the existing entry out of the address book without any success.

If I look at the server logs, I see:

<14> 2025-10-31T13:27:59.333Z BlueJacket2-Pi vncserver-x11[3031]: SModuleCtrlCommsListen: listening on /tmp/.vnc-vncservice/vncserver-x11.CtrlComms
<13> 2025-10-31T13:27:59.333Z BlueJacket2-Pi vncserver-x11[3031]: ConsoleDisplay: Cannot find a running X server on vt7
<14> 2025-10-31T13:27:59.333Z BlueJacket2-Pi vncserver-x11[3031]: AgentMgrService: consoleDisplayChanged, running 0

Does anyone have any ideas how to get this functioning again?
