VNC Connect v8- Copy/Paste not working

Upgraded to Connect v8 a few days ago. Upgrade was kinda ****, as v8 does nothing to the existing v7 previously running. This makes things very confusing and requires v7 to be uninstalled manually, which becomes a headache on a remote computer as you loose control of that machine.

Anyways, I have found that Copy/Paste, whether through key strokes or through a gui menu, does not work. This is from a Win11 box to another Win11 box that has reliably worked through the years and various versions of RealVNC. Most of what I do involves sequences of copying and pasting between boxes. So, this is pretty big for me. I also tried between a Win11 and a RHEL9 box... same. All running v8 Connect.

To be honest, the new interface seems slower. I don't like how when you open RealVNC, it requires an additional click to see your available connections. And the issues with upgrading v7 to v8 just should not be. V7 should be automatically uninstalled and replaced with v8 in the background, services reloaded, and return the viewer to the machine with v8 running.

I've been a RealVNC user for over 15 years, and I am not impressed this time, which is unusual.

  • Does anyone know if one can downgrade from v8 to v7? Copy/Paste is what I mainly do between servers. This not being functional pretty much negates using RealVNC, unfortunately. Ugh.

  • I am having this same issue.   I have 3 machines running v7, and just brought a new machine online and installed v8.     This is on MacOS, but the Copy/Paste doesn't work in the same way the described above.    My v7 machines work just fine.   Ugh.

I will also echo the thoughts, v8 is way more difficult to navigate settings/use/etc...  and without copy/paste, it's painful to setup in my particular use case.

Please let us know if there is a plan to fix this?   Or can we just downgrade to v7?
