Change RealVNC default port

I'm working on blocking any traffic generated by the free version of VNC, which is insecure and uses the default port numbers 5900 and 5901. We are planning on getting the offline version of RealVNC, which also uses the same default port numbers.

My question is, can I change the default port numbers for the offline version to something else so I can block traffic on ports 5900 and 5901? And will changing the default port cause any performance issues.

  • You can change the port in the Server:

in the Viewer there doesn't seem to be a way to set a default so you have to remember to add the port after, e.g. IP:6900
