Why do I get an "Access denied to VNC Server; please sign in to connect" error message when trying to connect to a VNC Server?

When trying to connect to a VNC Server using a cloud connection you may see the following error:

Why does this happen?

This message means that your RealVNC account has been signed out of VNC Viewer. This will happen if you have recently changed the password for your RealVNC account, for example.

You can check why this has happened by clicking the red cross next to your name in the top right of VNC Viewer:

How do I resolve this?

To resolve the issue, click Sign in again and enter your RealVNC account credentials.

Once you see a green tick/check mark in the top right next to your name, try connecting to the VNC Server again.
