Starting with MacOS 10.14 Mojave you must give the Accessibility permission to VNC Connect. If you do not grant this permission you will see be restricted to view-only access.
Please follow the steps below to set up VNC Connect on Mac correctly. These steps must be done locally on the remote computer itself, they cannot be done remotely or via the command line.
- Open System Preferences:
- Click Security & Privacy:
- Click Privacy:
- Click Accessibility:
- Click the lock button to make changes, and then enter an administrator's username and password:
- If vncagent is listed, place a check/tick next to it, and then click the lock icon again:
Skip Step 7. - Otherwise, click the + button:
then navigate to/Library/vnc/vncagent
and select the Open button:
and then click the lock icon again.
App is downloaded from the internet
Starting with Mac OS 10.15 you must now allow VNC Connect to be opened on install as it is downloaded from the internet.
Select open to allow the application to run.
Device access and instant support
In Mac OS 10.14 Mojave you will also need to grant the Accessibility & Screen recording permissions to the following applications:
- VNC Viewer
- VNC Server
- Instant support
You will see errors similar to the one shown below if you do not give permissions for these settings.
To enable the permissions for accessibility and screen recording follow the steps below:
- Open System Preferences:
- Click Security & Privacy:
- Click Privacy:
- Click Screen Recording:
- Click the lock button to make changes, and then enter an administrator's username and password:
- If VNC Viewer, VNC Server or instant support are listed, place a check/tick next to it, and then click the lock icon again
Skip step 7. - Otherwise, click the + button:
then navigate to the install directory and select the application. Then hit open.
The default for all install directories are as follows:
- VNC Server: Library/vnc
- VNC Viewer: Applications/
- Instant support: Users/user/Downloads - Make sure the application now has the check/tick next to it hit the lock again.
