Why am I being asked to upgrade to the latest version of VNC Viewer?

We've introduced new security measures to make sure people can't sign in to your RealVNC account even if they guess or know your account credentials (email address and password).

You should get an email each time you sign in online or in to VNC Viewer on a new device, asking you to confirm this was you.

This doesn't work with old versions of VNC Viewer, so if it's possible to upgrade the app on all the computers and mobile devices you connect from, we recommend you do so. VNC Viewer is always free to use and can be downloaded for desktop computers from our website or by searching 'RealVNC' in the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store.

If you really can't upgrade VNC Viewer, then please enable 2-step verification for your RealVNC account, which will suppress these emails. To do this:

  1. Sign in to your RealVNC account
  2. Navigate to the Security page
  3. Follow the instructions to generate a TOTP code on your mobile device each time you sign in.
