Follow

If RealVNC Viewer's password store becomes corrupted, you will find that RealVNC Viewer is not able to save any new passwords or use existing saved passwords. You will need to re-initialise the password store for RealVNC Viewer, using either of the methods below.

Method 1

In RealVNC Viewer > Preferences > Privacy, tick 'Protect VNC Viewer with a master password', set a password and then click Apply, OK.

Next, re-open your Preferences and untick 'Protect VNC Viewer with a master password' and then click Apply, OK.

Try your connection again and check the password is saved.

Method 2

Windows

  • Go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\RealVNC\vncviewer.d
  • Delete or rename the files passwords.json and passwords.encmaster

Mac/Linux

  • Go to ~/.vnc/config.d/vncviewer.d
  • Delete or rename the files passwords.json and passwords.encmaster

Try your connection again and check the password is saved.
