When you use VNC Viewer to connect to a remote computer for the first time, you are prompted to enter a password. This password authenticates you to VNC Server, the program running on the remote computer.
Note: You can subsequently choose to remember this password so you don't have to enter it each time you connect.
You must enter the password you specified when you installed VNC Server on the remote computer.
If you've forgotten this password, see the VNC Server password section of this article for how to reset it.
Professional or Enterprise subscription
By default, you must enter the (username and) password you usually use to log in to your user account on the remote computer. If you've forgotten your system credentials, you will need to speak to your IT manager.
Note: You can configure VNC Server to use the same authentication scheme (known as 'VncAuth') as a Home subscription. If you've done this, then follow the instructions above to reset it.
Out-of-the-box, VNC Server is configured to only allow users who are members of the local administrators group to authenticate (
Administrators under Windows,
admin group under Linux and Mac). You can register other user accounts and groups with VNC Server to enable those users to connect using their own credentials, and additionally set session permissions.
