This is typically a trade-off, since reducing picture quality is likely to boost performance, and vice versa.
Patented algorithms automatically adapt picture quality to network speed, so you may already have the optimal setting. But you can tweak the Picture quality dropdown in the VNC Viewer Properties dialog for a particular connection if you wish:
There’s a similar setting available from the VNC Viewer toolbar on your tablet or phone.
Advanced users could try setting the parameters listed in the Performance and Picture quality/fidelity rows of this table for both VNC Server and VNC Viewer.
